News & Notes from BMS for April 16th, 2018

Spirit Day:  Tuesday, April 17: Brandon Blue – Softball

D.C. Trip: As the school year begins to wind down with the last quarter of the year to go, we are still looking for 7-8 students to go to Washington DC so that we can order our second bus and leave no Blackhawk behind.  This trip is available to all 8th graders next year.  Currently we have 50 students signed up for the trip which is enough for one bus.  If we have 65 total students, we will take two buses. Currently we have 8 students on the wait list.  If we get to 15 on the wait list we can order the bus.  If we wait till next fall, it will be too late. If you are planning on having your student go on this trip, please contact our Trip Organizer, Steve Hendershott at shenedershott@brandon.k12.mi.us or call 248-627-1830 ext 1349.  Or you can register now by calling 1-800-468-5899 and use Trip number 152952 or go online to www.worldstrides.com/signup and use the same trip number. Time is running out for this great trip

Suicide Prevention Program: Attached is a flyer for an upcoming workshop on learning to recognize verbal and nonverbal signs from people with suicidal thoughts and know what actions to take. It is appropriate for anyone over the age of 15. It is free and will be held at the township library. There will be a morning and evening session for anyone who would like to go

8th Grade M-STEP: On Wednesday, April 18th our 8th graders will take the Math section of the M-STEP. Attendance is extremely important. We only had two students absent for our first round of testing. Please talk to your student about the importance of this test. Please remind your student to get a good night’s rest and to eat a good breakfast. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Breakfast Program: Please take a moment to read the attached letter from our Food Service Director, Suzanne Evenson, about our National School Breakfast Program.

Have a great week and GO BLACKHAWKS!!
