News and Notes for Brandon High School for the Week of April 29, 2019
Teacher Appreciation: The week of May 5th is Teacher Appreciation Week. As part of this celebration, on Thursday, May 9th we will be providing our teachers a huge lunch to thank them for all that they do. We are asking our parents and community to consider bringing in a dish to pass for this luncheon. So that we make sure we have enough food, please contact Nancy Dery to let her know that you will be bringing in something and what you will be bringing. She can be contacted at 248-627-1822 or at ndery@brandon.k12.mi.us. Thank you so much! Senior Information: Senior end of the year event information has changed. Please see the attached senior bulletin for information concerning all seniors at BHS. NWEA Testing: All 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the NWEA test this week. Please talk to your student about the importance of doing well on this test and giving their best effort. Summer School: Is your student behind on credits and needing to take summer school? Please see the attached flyer for more details. Contact Nick Ejak for more information nejak@brandon.k12.mi.us Financial Aid Night: Parents of Juniors! In a few short months, your students will be seniors and many of them will be tackling the college search process. An important part of figuring out college is understanding financial aid. We are excited to be able to help, by hosting our annual Junior Financial Aid Night on Tuesday May 28th at 6:30 PM in the Brandon High School P.A.C. A financial aid professional from Oakland University will be presenting all about the ins and outs of financial aid and the FAFSA. Students will file their FAFSA (with their parents) as early as possible when it opens in October of their senior year. Spanish Trip: The BHS Spanish program is excited to announce a trip to Puerto Rico in June 2020. Students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in Spanish for the 2020 school year, and who will have completed Spanish 2 by June 2020, are eligible to attend. There will be a parent informational meeting in the BHS library on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 pm. Mrs. Marino is the contact person for this trip. (lmarino@brandon.k12.mi.us.) Jimmy Johns Field: The BHS Athletic Boosters will be sponsoring a Family Fun Night to Jimmy Johns Field on May 31st. Please see the attached brochure for more information. Congratulations This Week: Congratulations to the Brandon High School STEM Program who won the Flint Metro League Math and Science Competition for the 7th time in the last 9 years! Upcoming Dates to Place on Your Calendar Now: May 7th – Band Ice Cream Social May 10th – PROM at San Marino Club May 14th – Seniors Honors Convocation May 16th – Spring Band Concert May 22nd – 24th – Senior Exams May 24th – Seniors Last Day of School May 24th – ½ Day of School for all Students May 27th – No School for all Students May 30th – Senior Breakfast, Walk, and Graduation Practice June 2nd – Graduation (2:00) Final Exams – TBD based on if the State of Michigan makes us Make up additional Days Last Day of School - TBD Have a Great Week and Go Blackhawks!
