News and Notes for Brandon High School for the Week of November 4, 2019
No School Tuesday: Due to Election Day, and teachers attending professional development, there will be no school on Tuesday, November 4, 2019. Juniors: All juniors will be attending the MI Career Quest field trip this Friday in Novi. Please make sure that their field trip permission slip is returned by the end of the day this Thursday. All students were given a permission slip, but if you need another, one is attached to this email. Report Cards: Your student will be receiving their official first marking period report card this Friday to bring home. These grades can also be accessed on the Parent Portal online. If you have any questions about your student’s grades, please contact their individual teachers. Challenge Day: Once again this year on November 21st, BHS will be offering our students to attend Challenge Day. This truly has been a life altering experience for our students, staff, and community members that have been a part of this. Please encourage your student to sign up for this amazing experience. Please click HERE for the Challenge Day website to get more information and see a promotional video. The Challenge Day permission slip is attached. This is limited to the first 100 students that sign up. Holiday Wreaths: If you would like to purchase a holiday wreath and help support combat vets across the country, please see the attached flyer for more details. All donations and orders are due by December 2, 2019. Winter Sports Season: Is your student planning on playing a Winter sport? Tryouts officially begin the week of November 11th. Please make sure that your student has a physical on file with the athletic department so that they can participate. These physicals must be updated yearly. ASVAB Career Exploration Program: One of the absolute best tools for career exploration is the ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP). The ASVAB CEP consists of two parts, the ASVAB test which focuses on career strengths and part two which is the career exploration workshop, in which students will learn about their career interests, then explore jobs which match their skills and interests. The ASVAB is also used as the military entrance test, but scores will not be automatically shared with any recruiters. Students are encouraged to sign up for the ASVAB CEP whether they are interested in the military or not. Students can register in the counseling office or by emailing jwilliamson@brandon.k12.mi.us.
