News and Notes for Brandon High School for the Week of October 16, 2017
Vision Screening: The Oakland County Health Department will be here on October 25th and 26th to test all freshmen student’s vision. If you would prefer that this screening not be done with your student, please inform Brandon High School in writing. College Application Week: Many colleges and universities will be waiving their application fees the week of October 23rd. The BHS Counseling Department will be helping students fill out these applications, help them navigate the FAFSA process and get them going with the common application on Friday, October 27th. Please have conversations with your seniors and get the process started now. Contact your student’s counselor for more information. Principal’s Council: Our first Principal’s Council meeting is this week, Tuesday, October 17th at 6:00. Please join us as we fill in parents on what is going on at BHS. We also use this as an opportunity to get your feedback and help with the school improvement process. Please email Assistant Principal Dave Wyatt if you have any questions and would like to have your name added to our email list. dwyatt@brandon.k12.mi.us After School Tutoring: Does you student need a quiet place to do their homework after school with teachers and students that can help them? Starting this week in room #207 and #213 we will have this available every Tuesday and Thursday. Please urge your students to take advantage of this opportunity. Challenge Day: Challenge Day is a national program designed at breaking down the walls with our students allowing students, staff, and community members to see each other for who they are on the inside instead of following stereotypes. We are looking for community members that would like to join us on this day to be a part of this amazing experience that is sure to change lives. If you would like to be a part of this on either October 24th or 25th (7:00 – 2:45), please email Principal Dan Stevens at dstevens@brandon.k12.mi.us. Go to challengeday.org and watch the video that pops up for more information. Band Invitational: This Saturday, October 21st is our 10th annual Marching Band Invitational at Brandon High School. Please stop by the BHS football field anytime during the day starting at 10:00 to show your support. There will be 16 bands there for your entertainment. See the attached flyer for more details. Family Fun Night: The Brandon Aquatics Center will be hosting a Family Fun Night this Friday, October 20th from 5:30 – 7:00. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Upcoming Dates to Put on Your Calendar Now: October 31st – Half Day of School November 3rd – End of First Marking Period October 24 – 25 – Challenge Day November 7th – No School for all students November 10th – Report cards come home November 22 – 26 – Thanksgiving Break Have a great week and GO BLACKHAWKS!
