Happy New Year!

If you have visited our district or school website, you have noticed that it has been down.  Our system administrators are working hard to get it back up and running.  These "e-blasts" are also a part of that system, which is why you didn't get a newsletter on the last day of school before our break.

With that being said, there are a few things I'd like you to know about sooner rather than later.
  1. It's time to start planning for our festival.  This year's theme is going to be "Earth Science."  Our first planning meeting will be on Friday, January 15th at 2:30.  Being on the Festival Committee is fun and rewarding.  Please RSVP if you can come.  If you can't make it to this meeting but would like to be a part of it in some way, please let us know.  The contact emails are aphillips@brandon.k12.mi.us or Jeanne Suter at jeannesuter1@gmail.com.  You can also call the office.  We need at least 10 parents to help out with the various aspects of planning this awesome day!
  2. Today's Hawk Talk was a special one because I am asking students to do a little homework.  In the fall, teachers did an exercise called the "One Word Project."  The basics are that each student is to work with an adult to come up with one word that describes that student, and then take a picture.  The picture is turned to black and white and the word is added.  There is a descriptive flyer attached, and you can also watch today's Hawk Talk by clicking here to learn more.  I'd love to have our bulletin board overflowing with "One Word" projects from as many of our students as possible!
  3. Mr. Larson's next club is the Coding Club.  It teaches the basics of computer programming to all ages of children.  The flyer for that program was sent home before Christmas and it is also attached to this email.  The club's first meeting will be Wednesday, January 13th.
That's all for now.  I hope everyone was able to enjoy lots of extra quality family time with their children over the last couple of weeks!
