News and Notes for Brandon High School for the Week of September 2, 2019

Drop Off:  If you will be dropping off your student in the mornings, please pull all the way up in the service drive when arriving as to not cause a line-up of traffic in the service drive.  Students can be dropped off at the pool entrance as well as the main entrance.  Take weather and traffic into consideration when driving to school each day.  Please note that students must be in their 1st hour class by 7:25 each morning and will receive detentions for tardies.

Back to School Night:  We would like to invite all of our BHS families to come and have free hamburgers and hot dogs with us at our upcoming Back to School Night which will be held on September 10th starting at 5:00 pm.  Come and meet our teachers, learn about your student’s classes, and enjoy a free dinner for the whole family.  See the attached flyer for more details.

Freshmen:  The first day of school will be freshmen orientation led by our teachers and Link Crew students.  All 9th graders will be able to go on a tour of the building, find their classes and lockers, and get many other pieces of information that will help them to be successful.  The only thing they will need on this day is a pen or pencil.

Oakland Technical Campus:  Will your Junior or Senior attending the Oakland Technical Campus this year.  If so, the bus in the morning (Bus #30) leaves at 7:10, and the afternoon bus (Bus #31) leaves at 11:00.  Afternoon students will get time for lunch before them leave.

College and Career Readiness Presentation:  Parents of the Class of 2020! Please consider joining us after you complete Back to School Curriculum Night for the Parent College and Career Presentation.  This final year marks the end of your student’s high school career and we want them to be ready for their futures! Last year we began discussions with your students about plotting their individual paths forward. Now we lock onto those plans and help them take real steps toward their goals - whether that is learning how to fill out college applications and scholarships, exploring the military, or finding an apprenticeship for one of the great trades programs. We’d like for you to receive all the same info as your students so you can guide them along.  The event will begin at 6:15 PM (September 10, 2019) in the PAC.

Juniors:  We are once again offering the NMSQT / PSAT test on October 16th to all Juniors.  This test is highly recommended as it is a great way to prepare for the SAT in April, and is used to identify Merit Scholars throughout the state in which scholarship money can be obtained.  The cost is $20.00.  Please make sure that you turn in the attached form with payment to the Counseling Office by September 13th.

Homework Club / Tutoring:  We are excited to announce that Monday – Thursday for the upcoming school year that we will be offering tutoring and homework help after school from 2:30 – 3:30 in room #103.  Please urge your student to take advantage of this resource.  See the attached flyer for more details.
