News and Notes for Brandon High School for the Week of April 20, 2020

Week #2:  The second week of Distance Learning starts this week with Direct Instruction from 1:00 – 2:40 each day Monday – Wednesday.  Please make sure that your student is logging on to these meetings.  If you need help with technology in any way, please contact help@brandon.k12.mi.us

Zoom Security:  With the new state of Distance learning, there have been some safety concerns with the use of the application Zoom.  Please know that all of our staff have undergone training in preventing this from happening, and that the company Zoom itself instilled some new safety features just this week.  Please remind your students to not give out the link to these Zoom meetings to others.  If you have any specific concerns, please email Mr. Stevens at your convenience so that these can be addressed.

BHS Parent Update:  If you were unable to join Mr. Stevens for the parent update on how BHS will be moving forward this school year, please click HERE to view his presentation.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact him at dstevens@brandon.k12.mi.us

Seniors:  There has been an Instagram page created devoted to BHS seniors.  Please consider uploading your picture and college / career information to this page for everyone to see.   The Instagram is called Bhs_class_of_2020 and can be accessed at HERE.

Scholarships:  All of our local scholarship providers are committed to being flexible with applications due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  All application deadlines have been bumped back to April 30th.  Also, all applications can be completed and mailed/emailed directly to the sponsors.  Please download the following applications and submit them to be considered!

Credit Audit:  It is recommended that all Juniors and Seniors contact their counselor to do a credit audit to make sure that they are all caught up with their classes and on track to graduate.  If you have classes to recover, please see your counselor to register for these classes now.  Summer school may not be available this year.

Yearbooks:  BHS Yearbooks have been ordered and will arrive sometime in the middle of May.  Please stay tuned on how these will be distributed.  If you have any questions about this year’s yearbook, please contact Mrs. Kelsey at kkelsey@brandon.k12.mi.us

Grading Deadline:  Please make sure that you are letting all 6 of your teachers know whether or not you will be taking their class as Pass / Fail, Credit Hold, or for Credit Improvement.  The deadline to let them know this information is April 30, 2020.  The default option will be Pass / Fail if you do not indicate it to your teachers.

Have a Great Week and GO BLACKHAWKS!

Your Partner in Education,

Daniel M. Stevens
Principal
