News and Notes from Brandon High School for the Week of February 13, 2017

Scheduling - Card due back Tuesday Feb 14th! - Parents, the counselors have met with every student who will be attending BHS next year about choosing their classes for the upcoming year.  Students were given schedule cards to sign up for the classes they feel are the best for their interests and for taking steps toward their desired futures.  Your help with this selection process is crucial!  We really rely on parents to have thoughtful discussions about schedule selections with their children before signing those schedule cards.

*Once parents, students, counselors, and teachers have signed off on schedule cards, those selections are considered the best possible fit for each student.  Counselors cannot guarantee every selection will be fulfilled but will work diligently to get as close as possible.  Know that there will be no schedule changes after courses are selected unless absolutely necessary.

Junior Parent Financial Aid Night - Thursday, Feb 16th 6:00 PM - Financial Aid applications for next year's seniors will open in October!  Parents and students are encouraged to come hear from a financial aid expert from Oakland University all about the financial aid process.  Learn about the FAFSA, scholarships, grants, how to take out loans and how to avoid taking too much out in loans!

Principal’s Council – The BHS Principals are starting up an advisory council made up of parents.  This council is so that parents can help advise us on everyday decisions at the high school, to gain feedback in the school improvement process and to link the community with the school.  If you are interested in being a part of this group please contact Dave Wyatt at dwyatt@brandon.k12.mi.us.  Thanks for your support.

Metro Detroit National College Fair - Monday March 27th - BHS will be taking a busload of juniors to the Metro Detroit National College Fair to learn all about college options.  Almost every college from Michigan and many from all over the country will be represented at this event.  Students meet the people who make admissions decisions, and talk to the reps to ask questions about their schools, and sign up to receive information from any school they like.  Permission slips will be available in the counseling office at the beginning of March.

½ Day/ No School -  Friday, February 17th is a half day of school for all BHS students.  School will be released at 10:35.  There is no school on Monday, February 20th.  Have a great Mid Winter Break!

Have a Great Week and Go Blackhawks!
