Brandon High School News and Notes for the Week of February 8, 2016

Parents and Community Members:

Report Cards and Test Results:  First semester report cards and test results should have came home with your student last week.  Test results included PSAT for 11th graders, and last year’s MSTEP test results for 9th and 12th grade students.  See the attached letter about the MSTEP test for more information.

Junior SAT Preparation:  Brandon High School will be hosting free SAT preparation on Mondays and Wednesdays after school in the Media Center from 2:30 – 3:30 starting February 22nd.  It is highly recommended that all Juniors attend theses sessions to help prepare them for this important test.  This test will take place on April 12th.

FAFSA Help for Seniors:  For any family of a senior who is heading off to college next year that would like some extra assistance filling out the FAFSA, there will be a FAFSA Workshop at Brandon High School on February 10th at 6:00.  A financial aid professional will be hosting the workshop and lending free expertise to families so that you can file your FAFSA right there on the spot.  Space is limited for this event so please RSVP at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0B49ACAD2FA4FF2-bhsfafsa
Also, download the FAFSA Workshop Checklist (attached) to see what materials you will need to have in order to complete the FAFSA

Financial Aid Night for Juniors:  Parents of Junior students, did you know that the window to apply for financial aid has been bumped up to next October?  This means that at the start of Senior year, in addition to applying to several colleges, students will file their FAFSA at the same time.  Dr. Carrie Gilchrist, Senior Outreach Adviser for Oakland University will be joining us on February 10th at 7:30to give a presentation to parents and students to help you be ready for this process.  The presentation will be held at Brandon High School in the Performing Arts Center.  No RSVP is necessary for this event.

Teacher of the Year:  Please help me in congratulating Jeff Malicke for being named the Brandon School District Secondary Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Malicke will now go on to be considered as the Oakland County Teacher of the Year.

No School on Friday or Monday:  Mid Winter Break starts at the end of this week and there will be no school for all students February 12th – 15th.

Education Exploration / Business Expo:  Mark your calendar for Wednesday, February 24th from 4:00 – 8:00.  We will host our 3rd annual Education Exploration Night.  Joining us this year is the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo.  Two great events on one great night!  See the attached flyer for more information.

Have a fantastic week!

Daniel M. Stevens
