Please join me in congratulating Gwen Stine as this month's Extraordinary Blackhawk. Gwen was nominated by Elyse Rosengren for all of the amazing things that she does at Brandon High School. Elyse talked about the "countless hours" that Gwen puts into her classes, how she is always there to help her colleagues and about all of the different things that Gwen has done for Brandon students. Elyse stated, "Everything she does, she does with a huge smile and makes every student and coworker feel important to her." Thank you Gwen for all that you do!!!

Please join me in congratulating Coach Brad Zube as this month's Extraordinary Blackhawk! Coach Zube teaches PE and student support at the high school, but he is especially being recognized for his outstanding work as our high school football coach. While the success of the program has been impressive in his three year tenure (22-5 record, first play-off win in 20 years, first ever Flint Metro championship for Brandon and....), his true success is reflected in the boys that are in and have gone through the program.
He sets high expectations, he helps the boys focus their priorities (school and family first), he helps support their futures, he helps them through challenges and so much more. He loves his boys (all of them) and they know it. As we see this program grow and flourish, the district is very thankful for Coach Zube's leadership and his commitment to boys in the football program. Thank you to Coach Zube, and all of our coaches, for everything that you do to support our classroom teachers and for making such a positive difference in the lives of Brandon students. It is greatly appreciated!!!

We've got a lot of great things going on here at Brandon. Here are just a few things you might not have known.
BHS freshman Taylor Whitkopf's new Brandon pool record in the 50 meter freestyle.
ACT score achieved by BHS seniors Audrey Lamiman, Robert Kayfish, and Lilliana Taylor, putting them in the top 5% of all test takers!
Number of trombones in the big parade and the number of BMS 8th graders headed to Washington, D.C. next month.
Music is an integral part of student life at Brandon. With a variety of bands and choirs from the elementary schools to the high school, we have something for any musical interest.
Virtual learning has taken hold at Brandon. With a menu of options to meet special academic requests and scheduling conflicts, our virtual school has seen tremendous growth.
Academics are a priority at all grade levels. With advanced and honors opportunities at the lower grades to a large AP offering, we can challenge even the most motivated students.
Graduation is just the beginning. Recent graduates have matriculated at MIT, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Michigan State, and many other excellent schools.
Athletics bring our community together. Competing in the Flint Metro League, our Blackhawks regularly compete for league titles and berths in the state tournament.
Technology is part of our fabric. Each school in our district is equipped with state of the art technology, highlighted by a 1:1 device to student ratio at Harvey-Swanson Elementary.
